Noxum Publishing Studio: Support of the COTI interface up to level 2 optimized

Würzburg, January 22, 2025 - Noxum GmbH, the specialist for content management and editorial systems, is improving support for the Common Translation Interface (COTI) in Noxum Publishing Studio. This makes the translation process between the editorial system and translation memory systems (TMS, e.g. Trados) more efficient and automated.

What is COTI?

The Common Translation Interface (COTI) is a vendor-neutral standard that simplifies data exchange between editorial systems and translation memory systems. COTI ensures a smooth translation process, reduces manual steps and offers flexibility in the selection of resources.

COTI: Standardized connection of editorial systems and TMS

The COTI standard offers a standardized interface for the exchange of translation data. The Noxum Publishing Studio supports the COTI standard up to level 2 and thus enables a seamless connection to translation systems.

COTI Level 1:

  • Creation of a standardized COTI package containing all relevant translation data.
  • The package is transferred manually to the translation memory system.

COTI Level 2:

Automation of the process using exchange folders:

  • The editing system stores the COTI package in a defined exchange folder.
  • The TMS monitors this folder and automatically creates a new translation project.
  • The return of the translated content is also automated:
    • Translated files are stored in the exchange folder and recognized and imported by the editing system.

COTI Level 3:

Fully automated communication via an API:

  • Data is exchanged directly between the editorial system and TMS
  • Changes can be tracked live
  • Condition: Both systems must be able to reach each other directly. If the systems are not located in the same network, the implementation of Level 3 leads to additional work and potential security gaps.

Efficiency and automation for translation workflows

The improved COTI integration offers companies numerous advantages:

  • Time savings: reducing manual steps through automated data exchange.
  • Consistency: Ensuring a uniform workflow between editing and translation.
  • Productivity: Accelerated translation processes for international content.

The improved integration of the COTI interface up to level 2 is an important step towards optimizing translation processes. Our customers benefit from automated workflows that save time and ensure the quality of the content.
